Power BI – Beginner Level

Power BI – Beginner Level

Your data has a story to tell — today it sits dormant in Excel files, exports, and tables that no one really reads. This training teaches you to wake it up. Starting from scratch, with no technical prerequisites, you'll discover Power BI, Microsoft's tool that turns columns of numbers into clear, interactive, and compelling dashboards. By the end, your data no longer resists you: you're the one making it speak.

The approach is entirely hands-on. You install Power BI Desktop, connect to your first sources — Excel, CSV, a folder of files — then clean and prepare your data with Power Query, without writing a single line of complicated code. Next, you learn to link your tables together, to create your first indicators with the DAX language (totals, averages, percentages, trends), and to design visuals that make sense: charts, maps, interactive slicers, and KPIs. Each session is built on a concrete case that you rebuild with your own hands.

At the end of the journey, you walk away with a real interactive dashboard, built and published by you, and above all with a repeatable method for all your future analyses. You'll know how to turn a raw file into a professional report, share it with your colleagues, and refresh it with a single click when the data changes. Power BI becomes your reflex for deciding on facts, not impressions — an immediate asset on your CV and in your day-to-day work.

What you walk away with

This training doesn't stop at concepts: it leaves you with concrete, ready-to-use skills.

A published dashboard — your first interactive Power BI report, built from A to Z and shareable.

A repeatable method — the connect → transform → model → visualize reflex, applicable to any dataset.

A solid DAX foundation — the essential measures and calculations to go well beyond the simple chart.

An in-demand skill — a command of Power BI that's immediately valuable in the workplace.

Program — 12 sessions of 1 hour

A progressive, hands-on journey: we start with installation and discovery, learn to connect and prepare data, to model and calculate it, then to stage it in interactive dashboards that we publish and share. Each session ends with an applied exercise.

Module 1 — Discovering Power BI (sessions 1-2)

1. The world of data & Power BI — what Business Intelligence is for, where Power BI fits (Desktop, Service, Mobile), and the path of a piece of data all the way to the dashboard.

2. Installation & getting started — install Power BI Desktop, explore the interface (Report, Data, Model), the ribbon, and the visualizations pane.

Module 2 — Connecting & preparing data (sessions 3-5)

3. Connecting to sources — import from Excel, CSV, a folder of files, or the web; understand the preview and the data load.

4. Cleaning with Power Query — remove columns and duplicates, fix data types, replace values, and handle errors and empty rows.

5. Transforming & structuring — merge and append queries, split and pivot columns, and understand the applied steps replayed at every refresh.

Module 3 — Modeling & calculating (sessions 6-8)

6. The model & relationships — link several tables, understand cardinalities and filter direction, and lay the foundations of a clean model.

7. First calculations in DAX — calculated columns and measures, the function SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT and the logic of CALCULATE explained simply.

8. The date table & time — create a calendar, analyze by month and year, and calculate a trend (running total, period comparison).

Module 4 — Visualizing & formatting (sessions 9-10)

9. The essential visuals — bar charts, line charts, pie charts, maps, tables, matrices, and KPI cards: choosing the right chart for the message.

10. Interactivity & layout — slicers, filters, tooltips, and drill-down; composing a readable page with titles, theme, and colors.

Module 5 — Publishing & finalizing (sessions 11-12)

11. Publishing & sharing — publish to Power BI Service, organize a workspace, share a report, and schedule data refresh.

12. Final project: your dashboard — bring the whole journey together on a real case, from import to publication, and present your interactive report.
