Cash Flow Plan for Startups: Anticipate Before You Get Overwhelmed

A startup almost never dies for lack of ideas: it dies for lack of cash, at the worst possible moment, because no one saw the shortfall coming. Cash flow is not an accounting detail reserved for the end of the month — it's your company's radar. In this training, you learn to build a living cash flow plan that tells you, weeks in advance, how much you'll have left in the bank — and to sleep soundly because you know where you're headed.

The approach is concrete and action-oriented. You map your real money flows — customer collections, subscriptions, salaries, payroll taxes, supplier purchases, marketing — to steer real cash rather than theoretical revenue. You learn to anticipate what derails a young company: payment delays, supplier advances, seasonality, unexpected expenses. Then you project your cash flow over 6 to 12 months, in three scenarios — optimistic, realistic, and conservative — with an emergency fund to absorb shocks.

By the end, you walk away with your own dynamic, ready-to-use cash flow plan, and above all with a steering reflex: reading your numbers, adjusting your decisions, negotiating your payment terms, and securing your growth. You also understand how your business model affects your survival — why recurring revenue protects you where one-off sales leave you exposed. Cash flow stops being a source of anxiety and becomes your best decision-making tool.

What you walk away with

BSF Startup Lab doesn't just train you: it supports you so that your cash flow is truly under control.

A dynamic, automated cash flow plan, included — free for enrolled entrepreneurs, ready to track your business month after month.

Possible funding for the study — for high-potential projects, Startup Lab can fund the study in exchange for equity, reducing the risk for the founder.

A reflex that stays with you — the ability to anticipate your needs, avoid crises, and steer your growth with confidence, long after the training.

Program — 9 sessions of 1 hour

A concrete, progressive path: we lay the foundations, build your cash flow plan step by step, learn to project it and use it to make decisions — all the way to a living tool you keep and steer yourself.

Module 1 — Understand & map (sessions 1-3)

1. Cash flow vs. profitability — why a profitable startup can die for lack of cash; real cash versus theoretical revenue, and the notion of runway.

2. Map your collections — sales, subscriptions, funding, grants: list every cash inflow and its actual timing of arrival.

3. Map your disbursements — salaries, payroll taxes, suppliers, marketing, rent: distinguish fixed and variable costs, recurring and one-off.

Module 2 — Build the plan (sessions 4-6)

4. Build the cash flow statement — structure inflows, outflows, and opening and closing balances month by month: your plan takes shape.

5. Anticipate timing gaps — customer payment delays, supplier advances, seasonality, and unexpected expenses: model what drains the balance.

6. Project 6 to 12 months — move from tracking to a real forecast, spotting tension points and working capital needs in advance.

Module 3 — Steer & secure (sessions 7-9)

7. Three scenarios & emergency fund — build optimistic, realistic, and conservative versions, and size the reserve that absorbs shocks.

8. Cash flow & business model — connect your plan to your sales strategy: why recurring revenue brings stability, and how to negotiate payment terms and conditions.

9. Your dynamic, automated plan — set up the living tool provided by Startup Lab, keep it updated, and turn it into your decision-making dashboard.
